40th Wedding Anniversary

Lovely red ruby is the classic gift material for the 40th anniversary! Rich ruby red earrings, bracelet, necklace, ring, or cufflinks would all be appropriate.

Of course, forty red roses would also make a beautiful gift for this year. For gardeners, ruby colored flowers such as nasturtium or a climbing rose with ruby colored blooms are also pretty ideas.

If you do not want to give jewelry, feel free to give red colored gifts such as clothing, art glass, sculpture, and tapestries.

If you are in the mood travel, visit the ruby mine in Cherokee, North Carolina.

Since this is special milestone year, also feel free to give personalized commemorative gifts that may or may not be related to ruby. We like the red-cover memory book to the right which marks the major events from 40 years ago.

If you are having an anniversary party, add sparkly red glitter or red hearts to the cards.

Garnet is another modern option for jewelry stones.

I took my wife out to lunch at her favorite restaurant. While we were out, I had arranged for our daughter to fill the living room with red roses and red streamers. When we got home, my wife had no idea anyone had been there because our children were not expected to come over until dinnertime. When my wife walked into the living room she just stopped suddenly in her tracks in complete surprise before she laughed and cried. A great result, well worth the planning.
-- Neil

I think that a good gift for this year would be a ring with three stones. The middle would be ruby and the other two are diamond.
-- Sandy
