Blank years above mean that the traditional material (e.g. cotton for 2nd year) is not a logical match as a jewelry gift. Therefore, look in the Modern column instead.

When you give a gift of jewelry to someone you love, you will be remembered whenever your gift is worn. Jewelry is special because it is an intimate gift worn next to bare skin or clothing. It is also a public gift because it will be seen by friends, co-workers, and family. It is a gift that says to the recipient “I love you”. Because jewelry lasts forever, it may also be passed down through the generations.
But how can you pick out the perfect piece of jewelry from so many choices? Where can you get something unique and beautiful? What if you don’t know much about how to select jewelry?
Here is a useful tip:
Take note of what kind of jewelry your wife already has and, in particular, what items she wears a lot. That will give you some very important clues in making your selection.
- Gold or silver?
- Classic traditional, sleekly modern, individually handcrafted?
- Rings, necklaces, earrings, bracelets, brooches, pendants?
- Diamonds, precious stones, semiprecious stones, birth stones?
|
If you are unsure of what to get, try to select something similar but just a little bit different from what she already owns. If she has lots of earrings and wears them often, then she obviously likes earrings so that is a safe bet. Later, as you become more confident regarding her style, you can be more adventurous in your selections.
Here are some practical examples using this approach:
- Try for a complimentary piece. For example, if you know that her favorite necklace is silver, but she does not have a nice pair of silver earrings or bracelet, then find something that would pair well with her existing necklace.
- If you know for sure that she likes hoop earrings, but she does not have any that are diamond hoops, or some other stone, then go for this elegant, classic style in the same size of hoops that she normally wears. It's a sure bet!
- On the other hand, if you know she likes dangling earrings that move as she moves her head, go for a style like that.
- If you see that she only likes white gold rather than yellow gold (or the opposite), try to stick with the type of metal that she likes most because that will go better with the rest of her collection.
- Think about size. Does she tend to wear large, small, or medium earrings? Or does she wear all kinds? Identify her style in jewelry size and try to stick with that, especially if you are new to jewelry buying for your wife.
- You can build custom jewelry here with exactly the gemstone, metal, and style you want.
- The safest approach, if you are unsure, is to pick out a style that she already likes and wears often, but then swap in a new stone that she does not already have!
Remember, a gift of jewelry is a very special present that is cherished for a lifetime. Whenever she wears it, she will think of you.
You are giving her something beautiful because she is beautiful to you, inside and out!
