An Account of Our 5th
by Rachael G.

We’re best friends, and anything would have been special on our anniversary.

My husband and I have now been married for over 5 years. This last celebration was particularly important for us because we felt that it was the last year of being newlyweds, and we’re still best friends. We have three beautiful children and we didn’t have a lot of extra money, but we were determined to celebrate what was rightfully ours.

On a sunny Friday, we were out getting a gift card for my uncle’s birthday, and we went to a new shopping “city” which housed Barnes and Noble along with many other stores and restaurants. We noticed there was even a playground in the courtyard surrounded by stores like J.J. Crew and P.H. Chang restaurant. Anyway, I ran in to get the gift card, and as soon as I got back in the car I heard my husband say “Next weekend, why don’t we come out here and go to the Macaroni Grill and see a movie?”

I don’t think I mentioned the movie theatre that is housed at the outside shopping mall. I thought, it’s within our budget and this place is nice. So I told him “Let’s do it!”

Besides, we never get to go to the movies by ourselves (Our kids are always with us).

We took our kids over to my mom’s house about 1 pm on our anniversary and headed over to the outside shopping mall. The first thing we did was check out some stores, and my favorite was called “The Container Store”. It is amazing how many different ways you can contain things.

We checked out the Zen store and some home furnishing stores as well. We were getting hungry so we went to the Macaroni Grill. The atmosphere was great, and I thought it was pretty cute how the waitress wrote her name on the paper table cover so we would remember it.

My husband ordered the Penne Rustin, and I ordered the Chicken Parmesan. They offer wonderful foccacia bread which was lucky because when they delivered our meals, I had been served eggplant parmesan. So, I had to have them send it back and wait for awhile for my correct order to be served. It happens to me all the time, and my husband felt so bad. I really didn’t mind because we had an awesome time talking and laughing,

After dinner we headed to the movie theatre. We saw War of the Worlds in the best theatre I think I have ever been to. We sat up top and I have never been to a theatre that has seats so high up. The movie was great and I’m sure that had something to do with the sound effects because the sound was incredible.

After the movie, we went to pick up our kids and head back home. When we got home, we discovered that grandma had brought them home to decorate our room Hawaiian style. I’m telling you this room was decked out! There were a couple of palm trees, some sand in a little box, some flower petals spread on the bed, and some Hawaiian music playing on our cd player. It was such a surprise, and it took everything I had to not shed a tear. The kids let us know there was champagne in the fridge, and that grandma told them they had to go to bed as soon as we got home. So, after a few kisses and hugs off they went. My husband and I went to the room, closed the door, and didn’t come out until noon the next day with smiles written all over our faces.
